Commentary
Namibia registered a winning start to their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign after beating Oman in the Super Over. Oman managed 109 runs while batting first and defended their score brilliantly, but the African side won in the Super Over.
Oman had a disastrous start as two of their top three got dismissed in the very first ball. Zeeshan Maqsood scored 22 off 20 balls, while Khalid Kail scored 34 runs. In the end, they were bowled out for just 109 runs.Ruben Trumpelmann picked up 4 wickets while veteran David Wiese managed to get 3 wickets.
Oman defended their total valiantly. They kept the African side at bay for a long time. Michael van Lingen departed for a duck. Niko Davin and Jan Frylinck built a decent partnership but none could get going at a rapid pace.
After a couple of quick wickets, the match went to the wire. Mehran Khan bowled the final over with Namibia needing 6 runs off it to win. The Oman pacer picked up two wickets and took the match to the Super Over.

David Wiese batted brilliantly as Namibia amassed 21 runs in their Super Over. The veteran then uprooted the stumps of Naseem Khushi in the Super Over and restricted Oman to just 10/1 in the Super Over.

Namibia aim to impress again
Namibia are featuring in the T20 World Cup for the third consecutive time and would be looking to win their match against Oman and Scotland, before thinking of an upset against Australia and England. They defeated Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup 2022, but failed to qualify for the main round.
Momentum on Oman's side
Oman did not feature in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia. In 2021 they were knocked out of the first round after losing to Scotland and Bangladesh. However, the momentum is on their side this time around. The Asian side reached the ACC Premier Cup final after winning five games on the trot, however they lost to UAE in the final. All-rounder Aqib Ilyas has replaced the experienced Zeeshan Maqsood as Oman captain for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies.
