Summerslam 2023: Is The Rock scheduled for a WWE return at PLE?

Bengaluru, July 31: Although The Rock has not been seen on WWE programming for almost four years now and no storyline has been reserved for him in recent times, there're constant chatters about his potential return at Summerslam 2023.

The Brahma Bull's name does come up every time a big WWE event rolls around and with just six days remaining for SummerSlam, speculations have it that he could eventually show up at the host venue, Detroit's Ford Field Stadium.

In recent times, a new import from NXT on Smackdown, Grayson Waller has taken the opportunity to fire several shots at The Rock on TV as well as on social media. Luckily, he got some response back which is the sole reason behind these return rumours.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted this situation and stated that WWE has opted to remain silent about the possibility of The Rock showing up on TV on August 5th. Possibly a segment with Waller could be set but that's not a lock.

Previous reports claimed that Grayson Waller would be booked at Summerslam for hosting his talk show with a veteran name and who knows if he's going to experience a Rock Bottom or People's Elbow as indicated by the source.

"I asked if there's gonna be somebody else, and they said 'I don't know, maybe.' So, who knows? I mean, he could do it. I don't know if Dwayne Johnson will come back, but if he's going to do it for something, it's gonna be for 50,000 fans."

There's a strike ongoing in Hollywood following The Rock's financial loss in the XFL which could eventually open the door for him to return to his home of WWE for a big payday but WWE isn't intending to drop any hint about this in prior.

Ringside News also asked about plans for The Great One at SummerSlam and a tenured member of the creative team told the source, "If it's true, which I doubt, it has not been shared with the writing staff."

The Rock's return could also be capacitated in The Bloodline saga that will unfold a championship match between Jey Uso and Roman Reigns in the main event of Summerslam if a future match with the latter would be in the pipeline.
