Bengaluru, February 2: The real reason why Roman Reigns lost the intercontinental title two weeks ago on WWE Monday Night Raw is revealed here.

Roman Reigns vs. The Miz was the main event match took place on the WWE Raw 25th anniversary. This bad blood continued for the better part of last year as both of them were the cornerstones of the flagship show. There's no doubt that Reigns is the franchise player of the company but The Miz is the guy who was crowned the 'superstar of the year' by Rolling Stone magzine.

The match was a solid one as two workhorses of the company brought out the very best out of other. In the end, Roman Reigns dropped the title to the Hollywood A-lister despite being a fighting champion. He received another shot on this week’s edition but failed to recapture it. There's a strong reason why Reigns was sidelined from this mid-card title picture.

As stated by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the recent controversies of the Big Dog dealing with banned substances are one of the strongest reasons behind this. For the past few weeks, reports surfaced on the internet where Reigns was involved with drug dealers.

Although WWE did not address the matter in a directly, the officials might have wanted to give a strong message to the three-time WWE Champion. Reigns also released an official statement denying any sort of association with those steroid issues.

Check out the quotes from stillrealtous.com that pointed out the matter, clearly,

“Roman dropping the title was not an indication of his status with WWE. The feeling backstage is that the recent steroid allegation story is a “non-story” and Roman is still set to be featured prominently on the Road to WrestleMania.”

Apart from this reason, taking the mid-card title away from the franchise player would also pave the way to drag him to the main event scene. Meanwhile, giving The Miz the eighth IC title of his career is considered to be a smart move by the officials in order to repay his hard work throughout the year.

As stated in a report by SportsKeeda.com, a huge push is waiting for him to set up a huge match at Wrestlemania. However, a potential opponent for him was not disclosed,

“It seems that the WWE has big things planned for the new Intercontinental Champion. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that the company is about to give him a monster push, in which he's currently in the early stages of.”
