Brock Lesnar's title defense at WWE Royal Rumble in doubt

Bengaluru, December 12: Brock Lesnar was seen last in a WWE ring at the Survivor Series PPV and as we all know, he works only for a few dates in the entire year. At the PPV as the prime champion of Raw he went up against the prime champion of Smackdown Live, AJ Styles.

This was a dream match for the pro-wrestling fans as the biggest box office attraction in the current pro-wrestling industry went head-to-head against the best in-ring performer on the circuit, today. The result of the bout went in favor of the Universal Champion as he connected with an emphatic F-5 to finish off the match.

However, as per the previous reports, Brock Lesnar might have picked up an injury during the contest after AJ Styles locked in the Calf Crusher, he was seen limping. But, since he is a part-time performer, it was not supposed to hamper his WWE schedule.

It was expected that he will put his championship on the line on his return at the Royal Rumble PPV. But, according to the latest reports of Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Universal championship might not be on the line at the very first PPV of 2018 and the reason for it is WWE has not found a suitable opponent for the champion.

If this scenario remains the same then the title picture on WWE Raw will be given less importance as well as the rule of defending every championship within a span of 30 days will also be violated. There were particular reasons stated by SportsKeeda.com for which WWE officials are not forcing Brock Lesnar to defend the title. According to the source,

a) The way the WWE is booking Braun Strowman, he's not on another collision course with Lesnar.

b) Roman Reigns is yet to face Lesnar at WrestleMania, and that plan hasn't changed.

c) Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are still set to be involved as a tag team potentially through to WrestleMania.

d) Having Bray Wyatt face Lesnar would be "a complete waste."

Rumours suggest that John Cena is the most probable opponent for the beast incarnate at the Royal Rumble event if WWE does plan a championship match. Last night, WWE conducted a match for the number one contender's spot between Kane and Braun Strowman which failed to bring any outcome.
