US Open: Roger Federer loses to Tommy Robredo of Spain (in pics)
New York, Sept 3: World No. 7, Roger Federer suffered a shocking loss on Monday in the fourth round of the US Open, falling to Spain's 19th seed Tommy Robredo 7-6 (7/3), 6-3, 6-4.
Right from the beginning of the match, the Swiss master looked little like a player who has won 17 Grand Slam titles.
This is the first season since 2002 that former World No.1, Roger Federer did not reach at least one final at any of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
"I kind of self-destructed, which is very disappointing," said Federer, who made 43 unforced errors and managed to convert only 2 of the 16 break points. "It was a frustrating performance."

Federer also said: "The story of my life-When I lose, people are shell-shocked to see me play this way."
World No. 19, Robredo, who had already lost his 10 prior matches against the Swiss star, suffered seven prior fourth-round US Open defeats and matched his best Grand Slam performance by finally breaking through.
He also said, "I'm delighted by today's performance and the difference is I won the break points and he (Federer) did not."
"It was a really, really tough night and I am so happy. It was really a great experience," he concludes.
