Sania shown exit door by Ivanovic in the second round
Paris, May 31 (UNI) Indian Sania Mirza's tryst with French Open Singles event came to an end today as she went down to seventh seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 1-6, 4-6 in the second round here today.
Sania, who registered her first singles win here yesterday against Alberta Brianti of Italy, was no match against the highly-rated Serbian opponenet as she tamely surrendered the match in just 64 minutes.
Ivanovic, who seemed to be in top form, took just 23 minutes to clinch the first set 6-1.
The Hyderabadi girl seemed no where near her yesterday's form as he lost her opening service game of the match and then again tumbled in the third service game.
However, Sania tried to fight her way back in the second set and held her serve in the first four games, but Ivanovic proved too strong for the 50th ranked Indian and took the set 6-4 in 31 minutes to pocket the match and a place in the third round.
The 20-year-old Indian who had lost in the opening round in her two earlier attempts in 2005 and 2006 here, seemed to be in a woeful run of form in singles off late, which had seen her fail to get past the first round in Morocco and Istanbul in the run up to the second Grand Slam of the year.
Meanwhile, Sania who has been in sublime form in doubles, having won in Morocco partnering Vania King of USA and finishing runners-up in Istanbul pairing with Chan Yu-Jung of Chinese Taipei, will kick start doubles her campaign here today partnering Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic against top seeded American-Aussie duo of Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur.
Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic will also start their French Open campaign today against the 12th seeded Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg Marcin Matkowski.
