Sania remains static at 33rd spot in WTA rankings

New Delhi, Jun 16 (UNI) Sania Mirza's hapless return to court in Birmingham last week did not have any impact on her WTA rankings as she continued to hold the 33rd spot while her doubles rankings saw a jump of one place, according to the latest list issued today.

The Indian, who had a disastrous return last week after a three-month injury layoff, has 848 points in the singles while in doubles she gained a spot to be 19th with 1745 points.

After a long injury lay-off, Sania is currently playing pre-Wimbledon tournaments to get match fit for the grass court Grand Slam.

Meanwhile, in the ATP doubles rankings, India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes also remained static at the 13th and 23rd position respectively.

While Bhupathi has 2820 points, Paes, who lost the Gerry Webber Open finals in Halle, Germany last night has 2050 points.

After a series verbal battles against each other, the Indian duo will play together in the Ordina Open that begins today in The Netherlands.

The Paes-Bhupathi pair will take on the unseeded pair of Yves Allegro and Sebastian Prieto in the first round of the grass court event, which is also a warm event for the Wimbledon Championships.
