Sania moves up one place in WTA rankings
New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Sania Mirza has something to cheer after being ruled out for four weeks from competitive tennis as she moved up one place to 45th in the latest WTA singles rankings released today.
Sania suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in her right knee during a first round match in the Qatar Open on February 26 and was later hospitalised in Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad where she underwent an arthroscopy.
Doctors attending to her had prescribed a rehabilitaion programme and her condition would be reviewed after four weeks.
Meanwhile, Shikha Uberoi (238) and Rushmi Chakravarthi (394) lost places while Ankita Bhambri (437) and Meghha Vakaria (514) moved up the ladder, according to information received here today.
Among Indian men, Mahesh Bhupathi rode on his final appearance in Dubai Duty Free event with Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek to climb six places to 21st in the ATP doubles rankings.
Bhupathi's estranged partner Leander Paes retained his number 12 spot.
Paes and Czech Martin Damm lost in the first round in Dubai.
