Sania Mirza climbs to 46th in WTA Rankings
New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) A semi-final finish at the Pattaya Open helped Sania Mirza climb three rungs to 46th spot in the latest WTA Tour Rankings released today.
Sania lost to Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-4, 7-5 after making into the last four of the 170,000 event in Thailand. However, doubles came as a disappointment for the 20-year-old Hyderabadi who dropped down two places to 26 in the rankings.
Sania has good chance of climbing further up the leaderboard as she goes into WTA Bangalore Open as one the hot favorites.
Seeded second here this time, Sania's only WTA win came two years back when she won the event, then played in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, there wasn't much change atop the table with Russian Maria Sharapova firm as numero uno. Belgian Justin Henin was second while Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo was third.
Li Na of China continues to be the highest-ranked Asian and she gained a spot to 16th.
Shikha Uberoi gained three spots to 227 to be the second highest-ranked Indian while Fed Cupper Rushmi Chakravarthi gained two spots to 394.
