Sania in East West Bank Classic second round, faces Hingis next
Carson, Aug 7 (UNI) Sania Mirza sailed into the second round of the East West Bank Classic WTA tournament here, with an easy victory over Canadian qualifier Alesandra Wozniak.
The 20-year-old Hyderabadi, who became the first Indian to break into the top-30 world ranking after a span of 20 years, demolished the 109th ranked Wozniak 6-3 6-2 in the 600,000 dollar Tier II hardcourt event last evening.
However, a mouth-watering contest is in the offing for Sania as she faces seventh seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland in the next round. The 'Swiss Miss' got a bye in the first round.
Interestingly, Sania had prevailed over Martina when the two players last met at the Korea Open in October 2006.
Meanwhile in the doubles, Sania and her Cincinnati Open winning partner Bethanie Mattek of the US will take on Janette Husarova of Slovakia and Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands in the first round.
