Sania gains eight places, 42nd in WTA chart

New Delhi, June 11 (UNI) Despite losing in the second round of the French Open, Sania Mirza made a significant jump of eight places to 42nd in the latest WTA singles rankings issed today.

Sania, who lost to eventual runners-up Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, has now 546 points to her kitty.

Hat-trick girl at Roland Garros, Justine Henin Hardene of Belgium, consolidates her numero uno status while semi-finalist Russian Maria Sharapova retains second spot.

Another semi-finalist Jelena Jankovic of Serbia jumped two places to third while Ivanovic gained one place to occupy six.

In doubles, however, Sania slipped four places to 41st following her first round exit from French Open pertnering Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic.

In ATP doubles rankings, Mahesh Bhupathi's fine run at the French Open -- he and Czech partner Radek Stepanek lost in the semi-finals -- propelled him to 20th, a gain of six places.

His estranged partner Leander Paes, who lost in the second round partnering Martin Damm of Czech Republic, slipped four places to finish the week at 10th, according to information received here.
