Sania drops one place to 50th in WTA rankings
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Out of action for nearly two months due to a knee injury, Sania Mirza dropped just one place to 50th in the latest WTA rankings issued today.
Sania, who is aiming to return in next week's 1.34 million Tier I German Open in Berlin, has 503 ranking ponits to her credit.
All other Indians lost places with US-based Shikha Uberoi and Sunitha Rao, who spearheaded India's Fed Cup campaign in Sania's absence, were 239th and 241st, droppng one and 11 places respectively.
Veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi (399) and Bhambri sisters Ankita (487) and Sanaa (525) could not maintain their rankings.
Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne continues to lead the pack ahead of Russian Maria Sharapova. French Amelie Mauresmo occupies the third spot followed by another Belgian Kim Clijsters.
Meanwhile in the ATP doubles rankings, Leander Paes gained two places to be seventh while his estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi dropped four spots to 29th.
