Federer emerges victor after a historic battle
Wimbledon, Jul 6: Surviving the long Fifth set at the Wimbledon Finals, Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick to win the most coveted Tennis title.
Wimbledon 2009 ended its journey with a bang. Most of the crowd who genuinely expected neither of the players to lose, witnessed a gripping and the longest men's final in the tournament's 132-year history.
But surviving through the tournament, and the grueling match, Federer beat American Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 16-14. While both the players gave a long fight breaking the tournament's record, Roger Federer broke the record of Pete Sampras by winning the 15th slam title.
"It's a crazy match, my head is still spinning," Federer told the crowd while dejected Roddick just had this to say - "I tried".
