RCBC junior tennis from Feb 24
Pune, Feb 22 (UNI) The 14th edition of the Royal Connaught Boat Club (RCBC) junior tennis championship, which gets underway here from February 24, has attracted 275 entries.
RCBC honorary secretary Ajay Gujarathi said here today that the tournament has received good response despite the fact that it is open for juniors with less than 5 MSLTA points .
The tournament will be sponsored by Bank of Maharashtra and supported by Pizza Hut and Natekar Sports.
The tournament has become a regular feature on the tennis calendar in the city and the state.
RCBC sports secretary (outdoor sports) Sammy Khambatta said the main aim of the tournament is to imbibe the spirit of winning in the young players.
This year's winners, runners-up, semi-finalists and quarter finalists will be awarded prizes. A special gift and certificates will be given to all the participants.
The girls and boys under-8 events has received more than 50 entries, which shows that many small children are taking to tennis, Mr Khambatta said.
Mr Sunder Iyer will be the tournament coordinator, while Ms Anuradha Bakshi and Mr Shriram Gokhale will be the chief referees.
