Passi, Shruti win U-14 Vazirani all India ranking tennis tournament

Mumbai, May 25 (UNI) Boys Under-14 top seed Vishal Passi and Girls Under-14 third seed Shruti Archita fashioned contrasting wins to clinch their respective titles in the Vazirani All India Ranking Championship Series 2007 tennis tournament near here today.

Passi lived up to his reputation and rallied to a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory to end fourth seed Adwait Sadwilkar's winning streak in an exciting championship round that lasted almost two hours.

After snatching the opening set without much ado, Passi lost his concentration in the second set, which allowed Sadwilkar the chance to force the decider.

''Adwait played well in that second set, while I was missing easy balls. I lost my concentration. But overall I had a good game,'' explained Passi.

''I enjoyed my services, my strokes were good. I kept the ball in play and attacked his (weak) backhand. I also engaged him in long rallies and forced him to make the mistakes,'' Passi added, as he clinched his first individual title of the season.

Formidable Shruti Archita, who shocked top seed Madhuri Patere on Thursday, was rewarded with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win over second seed Riddhi Hegde in the Girls Under-14 final.

Top seed Sneha Devi Reddy sent second seed Bharati Bylapudi of Vazirani Academy to her fifth championship round defeat in six appearances with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the Girls Under-12 final.

Top seed Ryan Serrao helped himself to the Boys Under-12 title, while little Jagruti Sachan overcame Dakshita Patel 7-6 (7-4) in a thrilling Girls Under-8 final that stretched into the tie-breaker.
