Osaka's Victory Over Jabeur At Canadian Open Marks Confidence Milestone

Naomi Osaka expressed that her straight-sets win over Ons Jabeur at the Canadian Open signifies her increasing confidence. The four-time grand slam champion triumphed over world number 16 Jabeur with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in their first-round match in Toronto.

The former world number one resumed her tennis career earlier this year after giving birth to a daughter in July 2023. Now, Osaka feels she is regaining momentum following her break. "I think if you've been following my journey a little, I go through mountains and hills. But now I'm feeling quite confident in myself as a person and a player and I think that showed a little," she explained.

Osaka Wins Canadian Open

Osaka's victory comes after an early exit from the Olympics, where she lost in straight sets to Germany's Angelique Kerber last month at Roland-Garros. Away from clay courts, the Japanese player felt that both the surface and her opponent brought out the best in her in Canada.

"Everyone knows I really love hard court," said Osaka. "So I don't know, I wasn't really thinking too much. It felt very instinctual and honestly when I play the best players like Ons I tend to play better."

Osaka believes she is starting to build momentum again after her hiatus. "Hopefully I can continue to play a lot more matches, but I think I just really love playing tennis and it's been an honour to play such a great match in front of everyone."

Osaka's performance on hard courts has always been strong, which she attributes to her natural affinity for the surface. Her instinctual play against top-tier opponents like Jabeur often brings out her best game.

Her recent victory marks an important step as she continues to rebuild her career post-maternity leave. The match showcased not only her skill but also her renewed passion for the sport.

The Canadian Open win is a promising sign for Osaka as she looks forward to more matches and opportunities to demonstrate her capabilities on the court.
