Murray inspires growth of tennis, Brit economy

London, Sep.14 (ANI): Tennis star Andy Murray's success with the racquet has contributed a 400 million pound boost for the British economy generated by tennis in 2009, a new study claims.

According to The Scotsman, Murray's run to the Wimbledon semi-finals, and his five titles this year, means he has been a major factor in the growth of the sport, along with Wimbledon's new roof.

According to the Barclays report, upwards of 200,000 people may have taken up tennis in Britain by the end of the year.

Tom Cannon, professor of strategic development Liverpool University, said the Murray Effect had had "a huge impact". (ANI)
