Murray beats Tipsarevic to reach Metz Open second round

METZ, France, Oct 2 (Reuters) Briton Andy Murray survive a lapse in concentration to reach the second round of the Metz Open with a 6-4 1-6 6-2 victory over Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic TOday.

The third-seeded Scot next plays either France's Michael Llodra or Austrian Werner Eschauer for a quarter-final spot.

World number 18 Murray, whose season has been hampered by a wrist injury played, solid tennis from the baseline throughout.

He broke decisively in the first game of the decider to wrap up the win after one hour and 41 minutes.

Earlier today, Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, seeded fourth, was knocked out by compatriot Julien Benneteau, who won 6-4 6-1.

France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won five games in a row in the third set to see off Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-7 6-4 6-4.
