Miki advances in women tennis tourney

Kochi, Apr 29 (UNI) Seventh-seed Miki Miyamura of Japan thrashed Indian Keslki Jayapalan 6-1, 6-0 in the Federal Bank Women's International Tennis Tournament at Angamaly near here today.

In another match, Korean Min Hwa Yu romped home by a thumping margin over Poojashree Venkatesha of India, 6-1,6-3.

In a tussle among compatriots in singles, India's Swetha Solanki and Archana Venkataraman beat Vishakha Sheoran and Nisha Nair by 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.

Besides, India's Geetha Manohar dubbed Deepa Vazirani 6-0,6-0 to advance in the championships.

India's Chirashanthi Rajur could not withstand the onslaught of Belgian Goele Lemmens and eventually capitulated at 6-2,6-0.

All the matches witnessed were one-sided and ended in straight sets.
