Defending champion and top seed Jannik Sinner will look to enter his second successive final in Melbourne when he faces 21st seed Ben Shelton of USA in the second men's singles semi-final of Australian Open 2025 at the Rod Laver Arena on Friday (January 24).

Sinner booked his semi-final spot after easing past Australia's own Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Although the scoreline reads an easy result for the Italian, Sinner said it was one of his best matches.

The 23-year-old opened his Australian Open title defence with straight sets win over Chile's Nicolas Jarry before sealing wins over Australian wild card entry Tristan Schoolkate, American Marcos Giron and 13th seed Holger Rune of Norway.

Shelton, on the other hand, saw off Sinner's compatriot Lorenzo Sonego in the other last eight match to reach the men's singles semi-final. The American was pushed to the fourth set by the Italian, but held his own to pull off a win.

Earlier, Shelton was tested by France's Gael Monfilis before the veteran retired midway through the contest in the round of 16. The 22-year-old also registered wins over compatriot Brandon Nakashima, Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta and another Italian Lorenzo Musetti enroute to his quarter-final.
