Hansrani stuns 2nd seed Harmeet in AITA tennis
Chandigarh, Apr 11 (UNI) Sixth seed Suraj Hasrani of Kerala hogged the spotlight as he stunned second seed Harmeet Singh of Chandigarh in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the boys singles under-14 quarter-final match in the AITA Talent Tennis Championship here today.
Top seed Digvijay Singh Naruka of Chandigarh, outplayed Ranjeet Singh of Chandigarh and third seed Nischay Rawal joined Suraj in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals Digvijay will play Ranjeet Singh and Suraj will knocks against Nischay Rawal. The winners recorded easy wins over their respective rivals in the quarter-final matches.
Digvijay beat fifth seed Jatinder Singh 4-0 (conceded) and Ranjeet Singh stunned fourth seed Vishu Prasad of Delhi 6-0, 6-3.
Nischay Rawal of Chandigarh ousted eighth seed Nishat Eqbal of West Bengal 6-0, 6-1.
Nischay Rawal made his presence felt in the boys under-12 quarter-final competitons also as the unseeded Chandigarh player shocked second seed Rajanvir of Maharashtra in straight sets 6-2,6-4. Fifth seeded Suraj Beniwal of Haryana also caused an upset by stunning third seed Digvijay Singh Naruka. Beniwal won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Top seed Gurinder Singh of Chandigarh did not face any resistance from Aiman in the quarter-final encounter and won with ease by 6-1, 6-1 margin. Unseeded Kamal Kishore of Chandigarh beat fourth seed Resham Singh of Haryana by 6-2, 6-4.
In the semi-final matches (under 12) to be played tomorrow Gurinder is pitted against Suraj Beniwal and Nischay will meet Kamal Kishore.
Unseeded Ravnoor Kaur put up a stiff resistance before going down fighting to top seeded Ikttesh Chahal in three sets in the girls Under-14 singles quarter-final match. Ikettesh won by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Ikettesh's opponent in the semi-final will be fourth seed Harnoor Kaur of Chandigarh who disposed of the challenge of eighth seed Sonali Bansal, also of Chandigarh by 6-0, 6-2.
Simran Sethi of Delhi, who had yesterday stunned second seed Parminder, moved into semi-final at the expense of Jasmine Bajaj, also of Delhi in a well-contested quarter-final match 6-4, 7-5.
The other matches in the girls quarter-finals in under-12 and under-14 were virtually one-sided affairs.
