French Open 2026 Injury List: Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune Withdraw

The build-up to the French Open 2026 has been heavily disrupted by injuries, with several high-profile stars already ruled out of Roland Garros ahead of the tournament later this month.

The biggest blow came with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing because of a wrist injury, while clay-court specialist Lorenzo Musetti and former world No. 4 Holger Rune have also officially pulled out.

With multiple contenders missing and Novak Djokovic still battling fitness concerns, the men's draw could now look dramatically different by the time action begins in Paris.

Carlos Alcaraz ruled out with wrist injury

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will not return to Roland Garros this year after suffering a wrist injury during the European clay season.

The Spaniard had entered 2026 as one of the favourites to defend his title after another strong clay-court swing, but his withdrawal leaves a massive gap at the top of the draw.

Alcaraz's absence also means the French Open will crown a new men's champion this year.

Lorenzo Musetti clay season ends early

Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has also withdrawn after suffering a rectus femoris injury during the Italian Open in Rome.

Musetti had been one of the most dangerous players on clay this season and arrived at Roland Garros with serious momentum after deep runs during the European clay swing.

His withdrawal removes another major threat from the draw, especially given his ability to trouble top seeds on slower surfaces.

Holger Rune out after Achilles surgery

Former top-five player Holger Rune will also miss the French Open after undergoing Achilles tendon surgery.

The Danish star has struggled physically throughout 2026 and delayed his comeback in hopes of returning fully fit later in the season.

Rune's absence continues a difficult run for the 23-year-old, who had previously emerged as one of the most promising next-generation contenders on clay.

Novak Djokovic fitness remains a major concern

While Novak Djokovic has not officially withdrawn, serious questions continue to surround the 24-time Grand Slam champion's physical condition ahead of Roland Garros.

Djokovic has played only three tournaments in 2026 and recently returned at the Italian Open after a two-month break. However, his comeback ended in a shock defeat to Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic.

The Serbian later admitted he was still not physically at his best.

"I wanted to start earlier but I couldn't. The situation is as it is. You make the most out of it," Djokovic said after the loss in Rome.

Although Djokovic has refused to publicly reveal the full nature of his injury issues, visible taping on his right shoulder during the Italian Open reignited concerns surrounding the same shoulder problem that forced him to withdraw earlier this season.

With Roland Garros approaching quickly, uncertainty remains around how physically prepared Djokovic will be for a best-of-five-set clay-court Grand Slam campaign.

French Open Women's draw also affected by withdrawals

The women's field has also been impacted by injuries and absences.

Varvara Gracheva and Sonay Kartal have withdrawn, while former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is also expected to miss the tournament due to a provisional suspension.
