Djokovic stuns Federer to win Montreal Masters
MONTREAL, Aug 12 (Reuters) Serb Novak Djokovic produced the performance of his career to beat world number one and defending champion Roger Federer 7-6 2-6 7-6 to win the Montreal Masters today.
The third seed, who had beaten Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal on his way to the final, saved six set points in the first set before snatching the tiebreak 7-2.
Federer, who made a host of uncharacteristic errors throughout, lifted his game in the second set, breaking the Serb twice to force a third set.
Djokovic, who had attacked the Federer backhand, let slip a 4-2 lead in the decider as the Swiss hit back to 4-4, but the Serb held his nerve to win the tiebreak 7-2 and seal his second Masters Series title.
