Digvijay stuns Karan in semi-final in AITA tennis

Chandigarh, Apr 19 (UNI) Digvijay Singh Mehta of Himachal Pradesh caused the biggest upset in the boys Under-16 singles semi-final as he stunned top seed Karan Choudhary of Delhi 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the AITA Championship Tennis Series being played at the Harvest Tennis Academy in Jassowal in Ludhiana district today.

Digvijay's opponent in the final tomorrow will be fourth seed Mandeep Singh Gill who prevailed over a fighting Pulok Bhattacharya of Delhi in three sest 6-3; 4-6, 6-2 in the second semi-final fixture.

Top seed Namita Bal of Maharashtra defeated V K C Vishesh of Andhra Pradesh in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the girls Under-14 singles semi-final. She will now meet sixth seed Carol Augustine of Delhi in the final tomorrow. Carol accounted for eighth seed Spurthi Mallampati of Andhra Pradesh 6-0, 6-1.

Top seeded Jaanesh M Kaur of Chandigarh will meet eighth seed Carol Augustine of Delhi in the girls Under-16 final. Jaanesh defeated Mehak of Chandigarh 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 and Carol Augustine ousted Namita Bal of Maharashtra 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-final matches.
