Bhupathi scalps Pilot Pen doubles title

New Haven, Aug 26 (UNI) Mahesh Bhupathi and his Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic lifted the men's doubles title overpowering Polish duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in straight sets at the Pilot Pen tournament here.

The top-seeded Indo-Serbian duo made short work of the fourth seeded Polish duo, taking the game 6-3, 6-3 in the 675,250 dollars event.

In what could be seen as a good omen for India ahead of the US open, Bhupathi and his Serb partner Zimonjic didn't drop a set in the duel which lasted one hour. The Indo-Serbian pair saved all their break points, which in the end proved to be costly for the Polish duo.

Interestingly the top-seeded duo were put to sword in each of the three matches leading upto the finals.

This win gave Bhupathi his second title of the season and his 41st overall. He had earlier struck gold at the Montreal Masters with Czech partner Pavel Vizner.

The win at the Pilot Pen comes after 10 years, when he first accomplished the feat pairing with Leander Paes.
