28th Fenesta Open: Aakruti and Sohini clinch Doubles Title, while Hruthik and Aishi advance to Singles Finals

The girls doubles U-16 championship was won on Friday at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi by Maharashtra's Aakruti Narayan and Odisha's Sohini Mohanty, who demonstrated exceptional cooperation in the finals of the ongoing 28th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship 2023.

Before defeating Nainika Bendram & Ishi Mahewari 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets to win the renowned competition and take home the glistening trophy, Aakruti & Sohini got off to a strong start in the final and grabbed some early points.

The team of Gujarat's Vraj Gohil and Maharashtra's Samarth Sahita won the boys doubles U-16 championship by a score of 7-5, 6-2 in a straight-sets victory over Kabir Chothani and Arnav Yadav of Gujarat.

Renowned Indian tennis players like Rohan Bopanna, Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Sania Mirza, and Rutuja Bhosale have competed in previous editions of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship, which is organised by DCM Shriram Ltd., a prominent business conglomerate, under the auspices of the All India Tennis Association and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association. It is the largest domestic tennis competition in India.

Hruthik Katakam of Telangana and Tavish Pahawa of Haryana defeated Shaurya Bhardwaj and Ranvir Singh 6-4, 7-5, to win the Fenesta Nationals title in the boys doubles U-14 division. Aleena Farid of West Bengal and Aradhyaa Verma of Odisha won the girls doubles U-14 championship by defeating Aahan & Akansha Ghosh 6-1, 6-1.

Top-seed In the boys singles U-14 division, Hruthik continued his winning streak and defeated Anurag Kallambella 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets to get to the championship match. Anandita Upadhyay of Haryana defeated Aleena Farid in the girls singles U-14 semifinal match with scores of 6-0, 2-6, and 6-4.

However, in the boys singles U-16 division, Thirumurugan V of Tamil Nadu defeated Prabir Chavda 6-4, 6-4 to go closer to the championship. To get to the girls singles U-16 finals, Delhi's Aishi Bisht defeated Telangana's Laxmi Dandu by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.

For all the junior divisions, the competition also provides a kit allowance.
