Young Aussies first to enter semis, TNCA, Kerala win outright
Chennai, Aug 25 (UNI) Australia XI defeated Rajasthan by 33 runs to enter the semi-finals, while reigning champions TNCA XI and Kerala recorded outright wins to gain full points in the third and the last set of league matches in the Buchi Babu all India cricket tournament here today.
Australia completed their league engagements winning all the three matches in the league phase and topped Group D.
Resuming at four for no loss in their second essay after forcing a 42-run lead, the Aussies scored 208 losing six wickets in the stipulated 45 overs with Luke Pomersbach top scoring with 52.
Chasing a stiff target of 251 for win, Rajasthan put up a brave fight before being bowled out for 217 in 41.4 overs.
Anshu Jain hit a quick fire 63, Rahul Kanwat (43) and Rajesh Bishnoi (33 not out) chipped well, but they fell short by 33 runs.
For Australia medium pacer Brenden Drew claimed five wickets and spinner Steve Smith four.
Kerala defeated Vidarbha by an innings and eigt runs to gain full eight points.
