YMCA Int'l Boxing c'ship starts tomorrow, India to field 2 teams
New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Defending champions India will be up against top pugilists from nine other nations in the 10th YMCA International Boxing Championships starting here tomorrow.
Two teams -- India A and India B -- will lead the challenge for the hosts, who will have 87 boxers vying for the top honours in the sub-junior, junior and senior categories.
India won the championship in 2004 and will be defending their title this year as the event could not take place the following two years.
The challengers for the title include Thailand, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Turkmenistan, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia and Nepal with Iraq also expected to join in after their contingent gets the visas, the organisers told reporters last night.
The five-day tournament is being organised in cooperation with the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
