Woolmer's murderer not a Caribbean national: Shields
New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Jamaica Police Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields has reiterated in a BBC programme that the killer of the late Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was an alien and not a Caribbean citizen.
According to Shields, the police came to the conclusion on the basis of the 'modus operandi' of the killer.
''The difference between Bob Woolmer's murder and most of these is that Jamaican killers tend to use knives or guns. The fact that Woolmer was strangled has led the police here to conclude that his killer came from outside Jamaica,'' Shields said in BBC's 'Panorama' programme.
He added that on the day of the 58-year-old coach's death (March 18), all together nine murder cases had been registered across the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan team's media manager, P J Mir, told the programme that Woolmer was apprehensive about the players' dwindling focus on cricket as a a result of their growing interest on religion.
''A CD was being played which was a Tabliqhy CD and Bob, who was sitting behind me, said 'why don't you tell them to stop? If they want to listen to that they could do on their iPods or personal devices', and he thought that he shouldn't be subjected to all that and I agreed with Bob,'' Mir said recalling an incident.
''Woolmer wasn't particularly pleased when players were going out to say their prayers in the middle of the game.. And a substitute was coming in and then again... And this continued. He was totally against it,'' he added.
The programme also claimed that former captain Inzamam-ul Haq and other senior players of the team became members of the Tabliqhy Jamat religious group and they generally listened to prayers and sermons while travelling with the rest of the squad on the team bus.
