Woods US Open title hopes go up in smoke

New York, June 21 (ANI): American golfing great Tiger Woods hope of landing the US Open title at the Pebble Beach Golf Club in California went up in smoke on Sunday after Irishman Graeme McDowell became the first from his country to snare it.

Fresh off his tournament-changing five-under 66 in the third round, Woods started off with a wobbly first putt on No. 1, which turned into a three-putt bogey, dropping him to even par.

According to the New York Times, he saved a par on No. 2 after driving into knee-high rough. He pulled another drive for another bogey on No. 4 and dropped another shot at No. 6 before his first birdie on No. 7.

That came when he curled in a 25-foot putt to create the first roar of his day.

But he followed it with three bogeys in his next five holes that dropped him to four over. A tap-in birdie at No. 14, a hole that tormented almost all the other contenders, got him back to three over.

He finished with a 75. (ANI)
