Woods drawn with 1999 Open winner Lawrie
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland, July 16 (Reuters) Tiger Woods was drawn today with Paul Lawrie, the last European winner of a major, for the first two rounds of the 136th British Open which starts on Thursday.
Briton Lawrie won the Claret Jug the last time it was contested at Carnoustie in 1999 after Frenchman Jean van de Velde famously slumped to a triple-bogey seven on the final hole needing only a six to win.
World number one Woods, who won the last two editions at St Andrews in 2005 and last year at Hoylake, will also play with Briton Justin Rose. Woods is chasing a fourth Open win having also triumphed at St Andrews in 2000.
They will tee off at 0809 GMT on Thursday and 1320 the following day.
American Joe Durant has the honour of striking the first drive at 0530 GMT. He was matched with Briton Oliver Wilson and Australian Ben Bunny in the 156-strong field in the third major of the year.
