WI kit arrived after toss on Jan 21: Yadav
Nagpur, Feb 12 (UNI) The police here today said the kit of the West Indies team had arrived at Nagpur from Lahore after an ''unusual delay''.
The kit reached Nagpur just after the toss during the India-West Indies ODI here, city police commissioner S P S Yadav said while addressing a press conference this evening.
Investigations by the Nagpur police has revealed that soon after their last match with Pakistan at Lahore, the West Indies team had left for India. However, despite their match against India being scheduled for January 21, the kit of the West Indies team had not reached Nagpur till 09:00 hrs of January 21, Mr Yadav said.
''The kit was in fact despatched from Lahore as late as on January 20, and reached the Vidarbha Cricket Association ground at Nagpur on January 21 at 09:00 hrs, '' Mr Yadav said.
The West Indies team and their team manager Clive Lloyd were making enquiries about their kit with the courier agency TNT Couriers. By the time kit reached Nagpur, the toss was held and the West Indies team had been provided kit from a local sports shop, Mr Yadav said.
''I have informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) authorities and my seniors about the matter,'' Mr Yadav said.
Mr Yadav said he had provided all relevant details about the Samuels-Kochar conversation to Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of ICC, which is in the city to probe the matter. ''As far as providing compact disc of the conversation and relevant documents is concerned, we have sought permission from Home Ministry as is the procedure,'' he said. In case of delay in obtaining permission, the documents would be handed over to ICC's India representative later, he added.
Replying to a question, Mr Yadav said the Nagpur police had not shared any information about the conversation with ICC's Regional Security Manager N S Virk who was in the city during India-West Indies ODI. Regarding doubts being expressed over Kochar's association with the underworld, he said the police had ''reasonable suspicion'' though not confirmation. He also informed that Sandeep Sehgal, on whose name the mobile number from which Kochar made calls to Samuels, is the son-in-law of Kochar.
