What more? Nothing, says Kapil

Pune, May 27 (UNI) Kapil Dev, who is a known advocate of an Indian coach for the team, today refused to comment on reports that current Bangladesh coach Dave Whatmore could take over the reins of 'Men in Blue'.

''Since the coach selection committee is meeting on June 4, I would not like to jump the gun,'' Kapil said while speaking to reporters here today.

The former India captain ducked queries regarding the possible appointment of 53-year-old Whatmore, a former Australian batsman who had played seven tests during the Kerry Packer era, as the next coach of the national team as reported by a news channel.

''Lets wait till June 4 when the consensus candidate will emerge,'' is all that he would say.

Kapil, meanwhile, however assailed the BCCI for its policy on TV rights which has denied the cricket lovers of the current India-Bangladesh Test fare. The BCCI is the richest sporting body and could have arranged for a sponsor to telecast the test matches, he said.

Kapil expressed happiness over senior players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly getting among runs. But he said that the senior players should encourage the youngsters.

''What are they proving by scoring centuries from 180, 190 and 220 balls? No doubt, a century is a century, but is it really worth scoring against a side like Bangladesh?'' Kapil asked.

To a query on the proposed Indian Cricket League, supported and backed by Mr Subash Chandra of Zee Network on the lines of Premier Hockey League, Kapil replied, ''what is wrong with it.'' He said such a move will allow more and more young talents to come to the fore.
