Western region's tally rises to 5 titles in IOC meet

Panaji, Feb 23 (UNI) The Western region today claimed the bridge team championship with 171 points but had to remain content with the second place in the team chess championship with 6 points in the Indian Oil Coporation 14th Inter Regional sports meet underway here.

Yesterday, the Western region had won four titles -- three in table tennis (men, women and veteran) and men's carrom. After today's bridge triumph, the Western region tops the tally with 5 titles.

The Eastern region today claimed the team chess championship title with 9.5 point, while it came second in the bridge team championship with 134 points.

The Eastern region's chess team comprised Nirmalya Chatterjee (Captain), H Haldar and B N Giri, while the Western team included S G Sekhar, P L More and M R Kulkarni.

The Western region's bridge team comprised Ashok Toraskar, K D Gurav, Dilip Parab, and Prakash Achar, while the Eastern region team members were Saha, Haldar, Chakravarti and Sarkar.

In the bridge pair event, Haldar and Saha of the Eastern region were placed first while S Ambekar and Chaughule of the IOC head office bagged the second place.
