West Indians to play under lights at home for first time

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Sep 6 (Reuters) West Indian teams will play under lights at home for the first time next month, officials have announced.

The semi-finals and final of the KFC Cup limited-overs tournament in Barbados on October 25 and 26 would be played as day/night matches, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said in a statement yesterday.

''This is a first for cricket in the West Indies and we are delighted to be the host,'' the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) said in a statement. ''Cricket under lights is part of the way forward in international cricket.'' Eight teams will contest the tournament with preliminary matches being held in Guyana from Oct. 16 to 22. Teams from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands and Trinidad&Tobago will be joined by a Combined Universities team and the West Indies under-19 side.
