"We will play to wrap up series 2-0: Mahela on match eve
Chennai, June 8 (UNI) Asia XI captain Mahela Jayawardene today said the team deserved to win the first Afro-Asia cup ODI at Bangalore and would play even harder to wrap up the three match series 2-0 at the M A Chidambaram stadium here tomorrow.
Talking to newspersons along with coach Roger Binny after his team's session at the nets, the Lankan skipper, who has been having a good run with the bat since the World Cup in West Indies said ''winning is a good habit. We are keen to win tomorrow and take the series 2-0.'' He said the Afro Asia cup matches are ideal for players to fine tune themselves for the series ahead. ''We are fine tuning even though the players are taking the matches easy as they have been playing lot of cricket'', he observed.
Asked if the Asia XI team would make any changes in the team vis-a vis the one that played in the first match at Bangalore, he said, ''we will have a chat in the morning and decide before the match.'' On whether he would play an extra spinner, Jayawardene said there was no real need to do so as many of the batsmen in the team themselves could bowl good spin. ''We will see. The wicket looks hard and good.
''I havn't played on this ground much. The last time I played here was in a Test match'', he said, adding ''but the wicket looks hard.'' Jayawardene, answering a question on the utility of this tournament said personally he was enjoying it as it provided a good opportunity to play with different players in the continent. ''It is good to play with your peers. You can get an idea of what they think, being in the same dressing room with them. It is a good activity. Personally I have been enjoying it'', he said.
