Wayne Rooney set to earn £50K for investment in 'Avatar'

London, Jan 25 (ANI): British footballer Wayne Rooney is set to earn 50,000 pounds after making an investment in hit 3D movie 'Avatar'.

Rooney, 24, along with David Beckham, 34, Steven Gerrard, 29, and Frank Lampard, 31, had invested around 100,000 pounds each in British film financing firm Ingenious Media, which uses the money to back a number of movie ventures.

Now with 'Avatar' expected to make 250million pounds for Ingenious Media, they are set to make big money.

Sci-fi flick Avatar, directed by James Cameron, 55, is set to become the biggest grossing movie of all time, eclipsing the 1.1billion pounds made by Titanic, which he also made.

Celebrities investing in the financing firm also manage to escape being taxed through using their investment to defer income and capital gains tax, regardless of how well the film does.

"The rich originally went into films like this as a way of saving tax. If it was a financial success, that would be nice for them, but even if the film flopped, there would still be a tax benefit," the Daily Star quoted Mike Warburton of accountants Grant Thornton, as saying.

"The Chancellor has since removed most of the benefits, but Avatar is the icing on the cake," he added. (ANI)
