Walmiki slams five goals in Mumbai''s big win over Jamia

Mumbai, Jan 14 (PTI) Skipper Yuvraj Walmiki slammed homefive goals, including a hat-trick, to power University ofMumbai to a facile 8-2 victory over Jamia University, Delhiand into the semi-finals of the INK Infrastructure All IndiaInter-University men''s hockey tournament here today.

In tomorrow''s semi-finals, Mumbai will take on Guru NanakDev University, Amritsar, who defeated V B S PurvanchalUniversity, Uttar Pradesh by a solitary first half penaltycorner goal scored by Karanpal Singh in the 26th minute.

Madras University and Kurushetra University, Haryana willcontest the second semi-final.

Nitin Kumar gave Mumbai University the perfect start bysounding the boards with a firm hit from top of the circle inthe 12th minute and four minutes later Dharmendra Antil madeit 2-0 before Walmiki got into the scoring act.

Walmiki scored four goals in quick succession to putMumbai firmly in the driver''s seat. He converted a penaltycorner in the 19th minute and got his second and the team''sfourth goal in the 24th minute.

The prolific goal-scorer added two more immediately afterthe change of ends, in the 39th and 41st minutes, beforenetting his fifth in the 44th minute. In between Boon D''Souzaadded his name to the scoresheet in the 43rd minute.

The Delhi lads managed to reduce the margin when SandeepKumar scored in the 55th minute and Pawan Malik converted apenalty stroke in the 62nd.

Madras lads overcame M G Kashi University, Varanasi 3-2,while Kurushetra University, Haryana blanked S R M University,Tamil Nadu 6-0.
