Vignesh, Deep Dasgupta fined 50% of monthly fee

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Ganapathi Vignesh and Deep Dasgupta were today found guilty of breaching an ICL code of conduct and the two batsmen were fined 50 per cent of their monthly fees by the disciplinary committee.

The two players were involved in an on-field altercation during the November 4 match of the ICL 20s Challenge between Chennai Super Stars and Royal Bengal Tigers.

''The two players were involved in a physical altercation.

The match referee Ajit Wadekar took notice of the incident and called for a report from the officiating Umpires,'' Tournament Director Kiran More said in a statement.

''Wadekar subsequently summoned the two concerned players with their respective coaches and captains, along with the three umpires for a detailed inquiry on November 5.

''Based on his finding, Wadekar imposed a fine, on both of them, amounting to 50 per cent of their monthly fees,'' More said.

However, reacting on the fine imposed on Deep Dasgupta, Royal Bengal Tigers stakeholder Mithun Chakraborty said, ''As an ardent cricket fan, I firmly believe that players should behave responsibly on and off the field. All players should respect and uphold the spirit of the game.

''I had been closely following the match and can say that Deep was provoked. It is my opinion that not only the offender but also conspirator is equally guilty,'' he added.
