Vidarbha gains 130 run-lead against Goa

Margao, Dec 3 (UNI) Propelled by a masterly knock of 148 by Madhusudhan Acharya, who was ably supported by Owamir Afzal's blistering 61 and Shalab Srivastav's belligerent 63, guided Vidarbha to 436 all out in reply to Goa's 306 on the penultimate day of the four-day Ranji Plate group cricket tournament match being played at the MCC ground, here today.

Goa chasing a deficit of 136 runs in their second innings were struggling with 87 for four in 35 overs at the close of the play and still need 43 runs to avoid on innings defeat with six wickets in hand.

At stumps Swapnil Asnodkar 49 not out and Faizal Sheikh 2 not out were at the crease.

Earlier, Vidarbha resuming at the overnight score of 237 for three with Acharya and Harshal Shitut did not last long and fell to Robin D'Douza. Both added 43 runs for the fourth wicket. After Shitut's exit, Owamir joined Acharya and both further yielded another 69 runs for the fifth wicket before Acharya was out for 148 with a score on the board 319 for five. Both also surpassed the Goa total to gain the lead. Acharya's 148 came off 284 balls and 386 minutes.

Shalab Srivastav and Owamir further soared their total to 363 for six adding 44 runs for the sixth wicket before Owamir was out on 61 with 10 fours out of 84 balls and 112 minutes. Later Vidarbhas's three wickets fell cheaply adding only 34 runs with score on 397 for nine. Shalab was the last man to be out on 63 laced with seven fours and the visitors folded their first innings with a total of 436 all out in 126.4 overs. Sandeep Singh remained not out on 13.

Left arm spinner Sher Bahadur Yadav (four for 116) was the most successful bowler for Goa. Robin D' Souza and Anil Naik bagged two wickets each.
