Vengsarkar refuses to comment on Chappell SMS
Jaipur, Mar 28 (UNI) Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar today refused to comment on coach Greg Chappell's alleged accusations that he and the senior players did not want to include younger players in the team that played in the World Cup.
Vengsarkar, who was present here to witness the Ranji Trophy one-day final between Mumbai and hosts Rajasthan, told mediapersons that he was unaware of the statement made by Chappell as he was in Jaipur.
A section of the press has reported Chappell as having informed a well known sports scribe through SMS that he tried hard to get youngsters included in the team but senior players and Vengsarkar had allegedly opposed the move.
The SMS further stated that Vengsarkar was afraid of youngsters performing as it could create a problem for him.
Chappell supposedly wanted Suresh Raina to be included in the World Cup squad but the selectors did not back him.
To a question whether a comeback by spinner Ramesh Powar was possible, the Colonel said that not only Powar but others who performed well could also make it to the Indian team.
