Venezuelan Viso unhurt after horrifying crash

MAGNY-COURS, France, June 30 (Reuters) Venezuelan driver Ernesto Viso had a lucky escape after a flying crash that halted Formula One's GP2 support race at the French Grand Prix today.

Viso's car hit German Michael Ammermueller's in front and took off almost vertically, rolling and spinning in the air before slamming upside down on to the top of a waist-high concrete wall and then plunging over it.

The car narrowly missed track marshals, one of whom was treated for shock.

The race was suspended as doctors extricated Viso and took him to hospital. A GP2 spokesman said the Venezuelan, who drives for the Spanish Racing Engineering team, was conscious and a first inspection had found no broken bones.

GP2 is a feeder series for grand prix racing. Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton won the title last year before securing a McLaren race drive.
