Vasave, Vidwans post profitable doubles

Pune, May 2 (UNI) Promising Gulab Singh Vasave of Pune and Shreya Vidwans of Thane hogged the concluding days thunder today, posting a double in the boys and girls sections respectively in the Maharashtra under-18 State Youth Athletics championship held at the Baburao Sanas and Army Sports Institute (ASI) grounds here.

Vasave, who captured a gold in the 400 meters yesterday clocking 51:00:00 seconds, produced yet another gold-winning performance by winning the 800 meters event today. Vasave overcame the challenge of Shashank Varsanay of Nagpur and Digambar Patil of Kolhapur to breeze past the finish line in a time of 2:04:06, and, in the process, completed a fine double. Shashank claimed the silver while Patil the bronze.

The gutsy Thane lass, Vidwans, who won the 400 meters event on the opening day yesterday in a time of 1:00:00, went on to capture the gold in the 200 meters event today clocking 25.08 seconds. She got the better off Sayali Dravid and Sonali Gargote (both of Pune) who won the silver and bronze respectively. Sayali, thus, recorded a profitable double in the two-day meet.
