Van der Vaart double gives Dutch 2-0 win over S.Korea
SEOUL, June 2 (Reuters) Midfielder Rafael van der Vaart netted twice as the Netherlands eased to a 2-0 win over South Korea in a friendly today.
The Dutch side missed a handful of good chances before Van der Vaart fired home from the spot after half an hour after forward Andwele Slory had been brought down.
Van der Vaart grabbed his second 20 minutes from time, tapping in from Mario Melchiot's cross.
''We are very satisfied with the result. We were able to create a lot of chances,'' said Dutch coach Marco van Basten.
''It's good to come to Asia and win against a team like Korea, they're a good team.'' The South Koreans failed to take advantage of the few chances they created, and suffered a blow when forward Cho Jae-jin suffered a first-half injury.
South Korea's Dutch coach Pim Verbeek blamed the congested domestic league schedule for his side's poor showing.
''After 2-0 the team was finished,'' he said. ''It's the first time in my career in Korea that I've seen a team lose so much energy and that had everything to do with playing 22 games in three months. It's stupid and disrespectful to the fans.'' REUTERS AKD RK2046
