Vaas not to play in 2011 World Cup on home soil

Port of Spain, March 21 (UNI) Sri Lanka's veteran paceman Chaminda Vaas will be missed in the next World Cup in the sub-continent as he plans to hang up his bowling boots after two years.

''I performed well in the past two World Cups, especially in 2003. This is my fourth World Cup and definitely the last though I would continue to play for the next two years. I'm hoping to sign it off with some record against my name,'' said the left-arm seamer who has 313 and 371 wickets from 96 Tests and 290 One-Day Internationals under his belt.

Over the years longevity has been the hallmark of Vaas' career and the secret behind it he considers to be 'simple routine, following basics and training well'.

The pacer further admits that his role has changed lately as he no longer is in the fray for the new ball.

''I no longer get the new ball so all I am looking to do at this point of time in my career is to bowl in right areas all the time.'' However, Vaas is confident that Sri Lanka has the talent to fill his vacancy when he bids adieu to the game.
