UPOA delegation to meet Mayawati for Sports academy

Lucknow, May 20 (UNI) A delegation of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association (UPOA) will soon meet the newly elected Chief Minister Mayawati to repeal the Sports Act 2005 enacted by the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav led government and request her to form a Sports Acadamy in thes state.

The UPOA president, also Union Minister of state for Steel Dr Akhilesh Das said in a press conference here today that all the affiliated associations of the UPOA condemned this ordinance describing it as ''dictatorial'' attitude of the Mulayam Singh Yadav, which halted the sports activities in the state.

Dr Das urged the various associations to work towards the development of sports without any politics.

We would make the bid for the 2009 National Games, which were earlier witheld by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) due to Sports Act.

In reply to a question, he said, ''Two years time is sufficiant to develop the required infrastructure for the National Games and we will achieve the target without any fail.'' UNI
