UP Red enters quarter finals

Lucknow, Jan 26 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Red alongwith Orrisa, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal entered the quarter final stage of the All India K D Singh Babu sub junior hockey tournament.

On the third day, Chhattisgarh won against Hyderabad 10-0, Gujarat beat Orrisa 0-12 and West Bengal registered victory over Nagaland 2-1.

Chhattisgarh's forward line made the dent in the citadel of Hyderabad in the early stages of the encounter, when Yogesh Patel struct the first goal. He later scored his hat-trick. At half time, the score read 6-0 in favour of Chhattisgarh.

In the second half, it was Hemant Yadav, who opened the attack on the goalpost of the rivals scoring two goals within two minutes.

They clinched the match 10-0.

The match between Gujarat and Orrisa was also a one sided affair in which the later trounced Gujarat by 12 goals to nil after leading 9-0 till breather. For the winning team, Saroj Barla hit four goals followed by Arun Dung Dung (3), Sanjib and Ajay two each.

The last match of the day between Nagaland and West Bengal was a close contest.

Nagaland, however, took the lead in the last minutes of the first half through a field goal by Faiz and maintained till half time, but they could not maintained their work intact.

The Bengal team first leveled the score in the 37th minute through a goal by Sandeep Das, while Prakash consolidated the lead in the 55th minute. West Bengal came victorious 2-1.
