UK police warn of World Cup domestic violence

London, June 9 (ANI): British police have warned football fans to watch their alcohol intake during the World Cup as they have predicted an increase in violent attacks.

According to The Guardian and Sky News, the Home Office says that during the last World Cup, on England match days, the number of domestic violence cases rose by around 25 percent, and when England was eliminated from the competition, that figure rose to more than 30 percent.

Staffordshire Police has now released a hard-hitting internet video warning of the dangers of too much booze.

"We do see a lot more violent incidents, sometimes in and around licenced premises, where alcohol plays a part," both quoted Assistant Chief Constable Jane Sawyers, as saying.

He added: "But we also see quite a lot of domestic related incidents that occur both before and after World Cup matches, and again alcohol often plays a part in that." (ANI)
