Trials for sports wing seats in Punjab colleges
Chandigarh, June 21 (UNI) Punjab Sports Department will hold its selection trials from June 23 to 30 at Jalandhar, Patiala and Chandigarh to choose boys and girls for the sports wings of various colleges of the state.
According to Punjab Sports Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, trials for selection in the colleges under the Guru Nanak Dev (GND) University, will be organised at Sports College in Jalandhar on June 23 for boys and on June 24 for girls.
While trials for the Punjabi University of Patiala, will be organised in Patiala on June 26 for girls and on June 27 for boys and trials for the selection in the Panjab University, Chandigarh, will be held on June 29 for girls and June 30 for boys.
Sports Director Pargat Singh said that experts in concerned sports disciplines has been involve as chairmen to supervise the selection procedure.
Brig Labh Singh (athletics), Suman Bala (basketball), Jaipal Singh (boxing), Inder Singh (football), Hardip Singh (kabaddi), Sukhpal Singh (volleyball), Sukhchain Singh (wrestling), Tara Singh (weightlifting) and Col Balbir Singh (hockey) have been appointed as chairmen for their respective sports.
Pargat clarified that for the remaining sports disciplines identified for allotment of sports wing seats in colleges, the Director of Sports of the concerned university would function as chairmen.
During the trials, those who will fulfil the selection critaria will also be selected for the Speed Fund Academy.
Punjab Sports Department recently held detailed discussions with former Panjab University Director, D S Toor, now functioning as sports adviser, Punjabi University Sports Director Raj Kumar and GND University Sports Director Dr Kanwaljit Singh. The Punjab Government has earmarked Rs 2 crore for the sports wing scheme for schools and colleges.
