Traditional powerhouses dominate wrestling in Games

Guwahati, Feb 11 (UNI) The North Indian states, considered traditionally strong in wrestling, expectedly did well in the 33rd National Games as a total of 21 medals out of 28 have been shared by them till now.

So far Haryana bagged three gold, one silver and three bronze while Chandigarh got two gold, one silver and one bronze.

Haryana, favourite to bag the maximum medals on offer, have so far captured the 55kg freestyle and 66 kg freestyle gold for men and also the 55 kg freestyle for women. The state has also got one silver and three bronze to prove its supremacy over other states.

Chandigarh, the neighboring union territory pocketed two gold in 55 kg and 66 kg Greeco Roman events for men. The women team of also contributed one silver and one bronze to make it four medals so far.

Delhi has also not fallen far behind, though, the state has only one gold medal so far in 48 kg women freestyle. However, the state has added four bronze to the gold to remain in the reckoning.

Despite disappointing performance of the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh wrestlers, Madhya Pradesh surprised all by bagging one gold and two bronze.
